Our Team

Melissa Boyes

Position – Owner

I always stun people when they talk to me about dressage and I say I don’t enjoy it.  It’s usually while I’m standing there head to toe in my DRO kit so of course, it must create some confusion.

I’m a showjumper at heart, however I still just jump small as I’m not the bravest (and my horse is even less brave).  Over the years I have been riding (20+) I’ve had many young horses, I thoroughly enjoy bringing on ex-racers.  It was re-schooling my ex-racer that I found my love of online dressage & DRO was born.  I’m a strong believer in flatwork being key to helping in any discipline and although I don’t enjoy riding a dressage test due to the shear panic of forgetting the test, I do enjoy the feedback from the judges.  I love to have something to aim towards and I always aim to improve on each test which really helps keep me motivated.

When I’m not doing stuff for DRO or at the yard with my horse Carlos I am in the kitchen baking & looking after my 3-year old daughter.  So while you’re learning your test, if you need a treat ‘Mrs Boyes Bakes’ (was Oh Sweet Cupcake) has a great selection of yummy gooey brownies, blondies and cookie bars.  They’re perfect for any occasion with many ways to personalise and they’re posted across the UK.

Bekki Schofield

Position – Brand Ambassador

Bekki is a freelance groom based in Northumberland, having previously worked in Racing, Riding Schools and private Livery Yards. She’s BGA certified, holds her BHS Stage 2 Foundation Groom, has groomed to FEI level, and has just completed her FdSc in Equestrian Performance and Coaching. She is now studying her final year for her BSc before heading off to study her MSc in September.

Riding wise you’ll find her on 17hh 9yo Ex racer Carrot (little and large) and 15.3hh 19yo Irish Sports Horse Lately (both short and grumpy), trying her best to look average and stay on haha. After a pretty serious riding accident last year where she broke her back (pretty much permanently… whoops!) She’s still getting to grips with riding again, and DRO has been perfect to help her do that while setting little goals along the way.

Esther Neal

Position – Supported Rider

Esther is 21-yr-old Event Rider currently studying at Hartpury University. She started competing in DRO towards the end of 2019 and managed to compete in DRO classes 11/12 months of 2020, with two horses qualifying for the Four Seasons Championships 2021!

Esther has a small team of horses and produces youngsters for eventing finding DRO a perfect training aid for both experienced and inexperienced horses. She mainly competes at BE and sometimes BS but finds the DRO classes fantastic for practising BE tests in the eventing class along with gaining feedback on her jumping in the combined training!

Although Esther has a huge love of jumping she loves being able to have a go at the higher level classes with DRO without the pressure of the competition environment!  Esther felt that DRO helped keep her motivated throughout the lockdowns of 2020 giving her goals to aim for with her team of horses!

You can follow their journey on Instagram (click the Instagram image below) she shares her training techniques and exercises she uses for all her horses along with lots of DRO tests.

Ellie Vallance

Position – Supported Rider

Ellie is a 21-year-old University student from the North West. She started competing with DRO in February 2020 and did the Veteran’s League last year, placing 5th overall.

Her pony, Maggie, is a 14.1hh rising-22-year-old Trotter X and was bought from a riding school in 2009 as Ellie’s first pony. For their first 5 years together they did lots of showing, low-level showjumping, working hunter and everything else in between, and after a lengthy break from all that DRO has been great for getting them back into competing. Whilst dressage may not be Maggie’s favourite, she tries her heart out and loves the jumping round in the Combined Training class!

When Ellie’s not at the stables, you can find her studying for her Psychology degree, or running the university Equestrian Club as 2020/21 President. You can follow their journey over on Instagram (click the Instagram image below) where Ellie shares the highs and lows of horse ownership, as well as lots of DRO content!
